The quality of your reading strategy determines the quality of your intelligence

There is a misconception that student who make excellent grade are destined with higher IQ ,in other words , they are naturally born to be academically exceptional , that not true, remember with effective studying you can be highly intelligent 

Understanding effective reading

Effective reading is a mental practice by which printed or written text in the pages of a book are analytically decoded for the process of understanding, it is the process of reading meaning from what is written.

Effective reading is a thing of the “mind” and not necessarily a thing of the “mouth”.

It is an act where the mind passes from “unknown” to “known”, from “understanding less” to “understanding more” . if students can learn to read effectively, they will not have problem in processing information, thereby making outstanding grades in their examination

                        “what makes an “exceptional student” is not nature, luck or destiny but committed personal improvement.

EFFECTIVE READING IS NOT A STRAIGHT FORWARD PROCESS

           Effective reading is not a straight forward process but a complex one. It involves critical analysis. That is reading and meditating through for proper comprehension. Therefore of after reading your book and you lack understanding, the process is not yet complete. The primary objective of reading is not just to pass exams but to understand and  acquire knowledge for productive reading. Reading without understanding is a waste of time

Every student reads to make excellent results but those who read effectively, have proper understanding, acquire the knowledge and give back the correct answer to the questions asked. Every student writes something in the exam but it is only those who write the correct answers that get the mark. That means reading produces less result if it is not effective. To make the most of your reading and acquire knowledge to make good results, follow these reading strategies

            HOW TO READ EFFECTIVELY

1.    Organize

Organize your reading and writing materials: text books, pen, highlighter, dictionary, exercise book and other essential reading materials . put them in order and come along with them to your reading centre

2.    Locate

Locate a conducive where you cannot be distracted for proper concentration

3.    Preview

Preview the entire book. That is scan through in order to have an idea of an information or message the book is passing across, after which you go back to read effectively

4.    Read actively

Active reading entails highlighting the main points and sub-points as you read through for easy reference.

5.    Review

Review the book by applying techniques such as answering questions from the text, writing personal questions from the text, writing personal questions in an exercise book to evaluate your understanding about the subject

6.    Check out new words

When reading, check out the meaning of words you do not understand in your dictionary. Meeting new words is an opportunity to learn new things. sometimes when you do not understand a word in the sentence, you lack understanding about the entire sentence or chapter. So always check out new words so as to flow with understanding
